Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors The People of The United Methodist Church

Homick Class

The Homick Class was the very first class formed as the church was begining its foundation. It is named in memory of Chapelwood's first teacher, Steve Homick, whom we lost after his sudden death in 1970, and in the honor of his wife Kay. Steve and Kay were contacted by Reverend Zach Farr in 1961 to assist in establishing the Chapelwood United Methodist Church here in Athens, Georgia.

The curriculum offers the International Bible Studies taught by a myriad of class members who rotate on the calendar and who each bring their own style and own areas of experience to the members, applying the sage words of the Bible to our complex and often harried lives.
The Homick Class lives by the motto "What happens in the Homick Class stays in the Homick Class!"...because discussions often become very animated and lively!

Class parties: Usually held each spring and fall and held at the church or at a member's home. Members invite spouses, friends, and guests to enjoy--what else!--great fellowship and delicious food.

White Elephant Christmas Party:
The class members gather during the Christmas season either at a member’s home or in the fellowship hall to enjoy a covered dish supper before the real fun begins—opening gifts that you may or may not want to take home with you!
